Robotics 675 Groups

  Manufacturing

Manufacturing is the segment of Tech High Robotics which designs, builds and tests the robot each year. This segment of the team is made up of students who wish to participate and learn. In the new school year each student who joins robotics is trained in tool use and the systems of the robot. Throughout, the team is in a project oriented mode, testing and prototyping new systems for the robot. The use of this project oriented atmosphere allows the build group to be ready for the build season.

Other parts of this group include the support team and the pit maintenance crew. Support allows us to build a test field and to make game pieces. The pit maintenance crew works during competitions to keep the robot in shape for each match.

Fundraising Fundraising is one of the keys that allows us to compete. This group puts together fundraisers and other activities during the year. This includes the annual pasta feeds, LAN parties and working with our great sponsors. They are also involved in marketing the team.
  Programming

Our programming group writes the software that controls the robot during competition.  The most important part of the code we write takes the position of the joysticks and uses that data to control the speed and direction of the motors. Other code takes data from sensors on the robot itself, and uses this data to check whether or not the robot is doing what we want it to do.  Some code that the programming group just developed records the actions that the robot does and replays them automatically in autonomous mode.

To write this code, we use software called MPLab IDE.  In MPLab we can write code, debug code, and simulate what the code will do once it’s in the robot.  Once the code is written and we think it will do what we want, we download the code to the IFI robot controller located on the robot.  If the robot doesn’t perform the way intended, we go back to the code, make changes, and download the new code.  We repeat this process until the robot behaves exactly like we want it to.

  Design/Animation

The Tech High Robotics animation group is a newly developed group for our team. With a group of students who are interested in learning programs such as 3d studio max, Photoshop, and Zbrush we try to create a beautiful animation for each year. The team being as new as it is, we have one student leader/mentor and no adult mentors. We are all learning together to make something amazing.

The animation theme this year is more challenging then before. We must create an invention for our community and animate the design progress, how it works, or how it's helping the community. The challenge of designing a working robot and a revolutionary invention is no easy feat, but we are up for the challenge.

Website The Website Group is responsible for updating and maintaining Tech High Robotics' website. Members of the group learn code such as html. The main goal for the Website Group is to build a completely functional website that can be updated with ease. Programs used to build and maintain the website include Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
  Database

The Database group creates and maintains a database to be used for scouting during the competition.  We have people in the stands collecting data, designated team members to process data and members on the field using the data on a mobile device to give Tech High Robotics a better chance to win.

We are working with FileMakerPro, PHP and MySql.

Our Group Goals:
- Create a dynamic system to help process, store and analyze competition data

- Create a client application to view this data from a mobile platform

- Develop an efficient process for collecting data that is easy to understand and participate in
